Surf Lessons in Cannon Beach

Booking a lesson at Cannon Beach is simple:

  1. Choose an instructor based on their availability.
  2. Select a lesson package for your chosen day.
  3. Complete the rental form and payment.
  4. Meet with staff to get directions for your lesson.

Please arrive at least one hour before your lesson to pick up gear at the shop. Once you have your equipment, your instructor will be waiting at the beach near the lesson flag. All instructors hold North Oregon Coast beach lifeguard skills, CPR, and First Aid Certification. Get ready to have fun surfing!

Note: Gear is not included in the lesson.

Shea Stokes:

Drawing from his extensive experience and ocean awareness, Shea is passionate about helping others stay safe in the water and find joy in surfing. He served as a beach lifeguard in Seaside, Oregon, for 10 years, and in 2024 became the lead guard in Cannon Beach. Since 2006, Shea has shared his knowledge and love of the waves through teaching surf lessons.

Availability: Saturday, Sunday, Monday

Tony Gardner:

Drawing from decades of surfing experience and deep ocean knowledge, Tony is passionate about helping others stay safe in the water and enjoy surfing the Oregon coast. A lifelong Seaside resident, he spent 25 years as a lifeguard, including 22 as head guard, and has shared his experience and respect for the ocean through surf instruction.
